We have finally gone public with some images of the cast and characters for Runestone, so now I can share some pictures with everyone!
Our cast is really looking great! We’ve put together great period-appropriate, yet epic looks using the wide color pallet available to the Vikings. Contrary to what many people think, the natural dying of the Viking age produced everything from red to intense green, with indigo blues, yellows, and even some rich purples were attainable. We are sticking to natural fibers such as herringbone wool and tabby weave linen, and also using some various types of fur for a barbaric flavor. Our characters are sporting a wide array of decorations, everything from tortoise brooches from which dangle needle cases, cosmetics spoons (or ear spoons if you prefer), tweezers, and amulets, to Thor’s hammer necklaces, woven wire bracelets, and belts ornately decorated with bronze plaques. The Vikings often wore their wealth, so we are reflecting that, displaying the importance and status of our various characters. Oh, and of course we also have some awesome weapons and shields. One of the most fun moments has been watching the actors faces light up as they get a piece of bling or a weapon for there character that really speaks to them and inspires them. Quite a few of our actors have mentioned how our clothing choices for them makes it possible to really feel the part. That is hugely rewarding!
Our large group pictures are from this weekend, which I unfortunately had to miss. But it is great seeing everyone together looking like a big happy Viking family! I was around for the first round of photos last weekend, however, when we had two additional actors come up from LA, as well as some of our local Portland talent in the studio.
Above is an image from one of our early fittings, where Ted is adjusting a wrap on Siobhan, with Val and Carey, two of our producers, waiting to approve the look.
A look that really came a long way! Here is her solo picture from last weekend!
Siobhan really looks great! She’s wearing some wonderful Viking jewelry too, including a strand of reproduction Viking era beads by Valkyrie Lee Rady.
We liked her head covering so much that I ended up making another almost identical one for Aja to wear:
Aja is also wearing brooches by Bronze Hammer (Torfin), and looks cute as a button!
Jared, playing our pretty boy and the king’s drinking partner, Bole, also came in for his final fitting and photo shoot last weekend. He looks ready to go boar hunting!
We shot some short scenes later in the day and I got to prove my metal as a props person by coming up with some items the we needed at the last minute. It pays to be resourceful! I needed some “herbs” for a scene and had the idea of popping into the lunch room to grab some tea bags which I tore open and sprinkled into a nice Viking style glass bowl. I’m pretty proud of myself for that one. 🙂
I took the obligatory artsy angle shot of filming, mostly so I could fit one of our interns getting his upper body workout into the frame. We all pitched in to help last weekend run smoothly.
Gary Saderup is one of the actors that flew up from LA last weekend, and he looked great! An awesome example of how looks have been coming together.
Frank Collison also came up for the day, and looked absolutely amazing! Because this was our only fitting for these two actors, we kept sewing/wardrobe help busy, making sure everything fit appropriately.
This weekend we had all of our local actors come back, and Claudia Christian, James C Burns, and Conan Stevens came up from LA for our promo shots!
I’m sad I missed it – they seemed to be having a bit too much fun! 🙂
I’m very much looking forward to getting the entire cast together and watching the magic!
